RGi sponsors Capstone project for VT students

Reinventing Geospatial®, Inc. (RGi®) is sponsoring a team of four senior Computer Science students at Virginia Tech for their Capstone project. The semester-long project provides credit for their Multimedia, Hypertext and Information Access class, and involves using Machine Learning to develop a Python tool that will analyze satellite imagery to identify any parking lots it contains.

RGi Software Engineer Mary Carome leads the joint effort while Technical Leads Steven Lander and Mike Szaszy serve as mentors for the team, meeting with the students weekly via video conference to answer questions, provide feedback and offer guidance on project direction. RGi’s goal is to deliver a real-world experience working as a team of developers in order to better prepare the students for their future careers.
